Kadar, Mazlan threaten to stop Umno GA

KUALA LUMPUR: Calling it a final warning, two Umno veterans gave notice that they will file for a court injunction to stop the Umno general assembly (GA) and elections, scheduled for March 24-28.

Datuk Kadar Shah Sulaiman, a Muar delegate, and Datuk Mazlan Harun said they were disappointed that no action had been taken despite their reports with the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) last year.

The duo had lodged reports against party president Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi with the ACA on Aug 5 and Sept 4 last year.

“We had noted then if no action was taken, we would have to take more aggressive steps,” said Kadar at a press conference on March 3.

“Even the 1,000 reports of abuse of power and money politics noted by Umno disciplinary board chairman Tengku Ahmad Rithaudeen has not been acted upon,” he added.

Mazlan, a former Umno Youth exco, said their attempt to halt the Umno general assembly should not be seen
as a move to stop Datuk Seri Najib Razak from assuming the presidency.

“We are not here to stop (Najib). Everyone who loves Umno must take this matter seriously. The process must be completed according to the party constitution and the law. We are not involved in the transition plan, it can be completed anytime,” said Mazlan.
